Jacqueline Fernandez was born in Manama and raised by an ethnically diverse, multiracial family. Her parents are Malaysian and the Sri Lankan. The father of Jacqueline is Elroy Fernandez is from Sri Lanka. She has two brothers and one older sister. She was born and raised in Bahrain. Her parents had been to the country in the 1980s because of civil unrest in Sri Lanka. In Australia she pursued a degree in Media and Communications at University of Sydney following her graduation from Bahrain. Passionate about different cultures and languages led her to join the Berlitz Language School, a school in which she mastered French and Arabic in addition to learning Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March of 2006, and later competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In 2006, she was awarded her the Miss Sri Lanka title. Then, she stepped into television to host a program on Sri Lankan business named Lanka Business Report. Padukone's father is badminton-player Prakash Padukone. Padukone has been raised both in Copenhagen as well as Bangalore. In her teens, she participated in national badminton tournaments. She later resigned from playing and went on to become a designer. Padukone is from Mangalorean background, and her mother tongue is Konkani. Her lineage is from Padukone village located in Kundapura Taluk in the Udupi District of the state of Karnataka, India. Prakash Padukone has retired as an international badminton player and her mother is also a travel consultant.
